Deep Dish Falafel Pizza

Deep Dish Falafel Pizza. If you’re a fan of falafel then you’re going to love this deep dish! This pizza has a base of tomato sauce and feta topped with banana peppers, black olives, tomatoes, falafels and red onion. Finish the pizza off with freshly cracked pepper, pinch of red pepper flakes, tangy Greek yogurt sauce, harissa and parsley.

Deep Dish Falafel Pizza

This pizza is definitely a deep dish, possibly even requiring a fork and knife to eat but it’s AMAZING! I have ordered falafel wraps for my entire adult life at middle eastern restaurants and thought it was about time to make my own rendition on a pizza.

How to make a Deep Dish Falafel Pizza: step by step

Step 1: Make the falafels

This falafel mix is great to save time and mess. Once the falafel mix is ready shape into disks, add them to a pan with avocado oil and cook until slighted browned on each side, about 3-5 minutes on low heat. Set aside.

Step 2: Make tomato sauce and tangy Greek yogurt sauce

Tomato sauce: Blend the tomatoes in a blender or food processor, add everything into a pot and cook on low heat for 30 minutes until the sauce reduces and thickens.

Tangy Greek yogurt sauce: Add all of the ingredients to a blender and blend until smooth, set aside.

Step 3: Preheat oven and prepare pizza dough

You can use a homemade pizza dough recipe but for the sake of time I typically buy it from the grocery store that sells pizza dough from a famous local pizza place and it’s amazing!

Now let’s get back to prep.

Set the dough out for few minutes to relax the gluten. Preheat the oven to 475°F and then start to shape the dough. Working from the middle with your fingertips all the way to the edges.

Place dough on a parchment lined pizza pan and start poking holes in the base of the pizza dough with a fork (I do this so that the dough doesn’t rise too much in the oven and it helps create a nice and crunchy bottom crust). Bake for 5 minutes then remove from the oven and set aside until assembly.

Step 3: Mise En Place

Get all of your mise en place ready. Slice the tomato and red onion and chop banana peppers into small pieces. Gather together the feta, black olives, tomato sauce and falafels for easy assembly.
